Last Saturday, Kris' parents invited us to the K-State game. We tailgated before the game and had a great time. I even wore purple - as hard as it was. Sorry all my K-State fans, but I will always be a Jayhawk!! Even so, we enjoyed the day and were happy the Wildcats won.

FIREPROOF

More to come about our weekend - it was busy, but a great weekend - but I wanted to post about a movie that Kris and I went to see on Sunday. It was really good. It stars Kirk Cameron (a.k.a. Mike Seaver of Growing Pains - most my age will remember that show), and it was written/produced by the same people who did Facing the Giants. Anyway, check it out, and I would strongly encourage anyone who is in a relationship to see this movie. It was so nice to go to a movie without the foul language, sex, and violence that is so typical of even the mildest movies these days. This one is about love as God intended it and how our love for our spouse should be the same as God's love for us.

1 Corinthians 13

Love is long suffering, love is kind, it is not jealous, love does not boast, it is not inflated.
It is not discourteous, it is not selfish, it is not irritable, it does not enumerate the evil.

It does not rejoice over the wrong, but rejoices in the truth
It covers all things, it has faith for all things, it hopes in all things, it endures in all things.

Wednesday Nights

A couple of years ago, our church decided to stop having Wednesday night activities for those below 4th grade and to just have a Sunday morning children's church. Having come from a church that had Awana's and loving it, it was a difficult adjustment for us -- but now we are having Wednesday Family Nights. This has been great because it gives families a scheduled time to be together - not the kids go one place while the adults go another, but we actually get to be together. We sing songs, play games, have contests, make crafts, and have a snack all of which are centered around a Bible story. My kids (and myself) are having a great time with it. The pictures below are from the opening time.

"Pharoh, Pharoh, ohhhh baby let my people go!"

Who thought it was a good idea for kids to link arms, spin in circles, and sing songs?

My kids always love this time of year when I say we are going to decorate. Matigan told me that it was all she could think about and wait for all day! First we have to unload the boxes and spread everything out on the floor. For many years, I spent a lot of time trying to remember where I had things in the past and/or trying to figure out where things should go. However, thanks to a tip from my mother-in-law, I started taking pictures of where I put things. As long as you don't mind having things look pretty much the same from year-to-year, it makes it a lot easier. Especially, when you can pull this pics up on your computer, and your kids just put everything in it's place. The truth is - I love this time of year as well. I love the fall colors and the cooler weather. Reminds me of hayrack rides, hot dog roasts, hot cocoa at football games, and of course Trick or Treating. I hope my kids savor these memories as they get older.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Okay, we have a lot of birthdays in September. Today is my nephew's - Marcus. He is 14 and we were able to celebrate with him this weekend during our quick visit - we had birthday pancakes.

Marcus - hope this picture doesn't embarass you too much - love the glasses (they are actually his mom's - I couldn't believe they have the same prescription - they are both blind!). Hope your day was great - wish you could move here!

US Highway 36 Treasure Hunt

AHHH - Kansas!

Okay, I'm not sure that we found many treasures, but we did have a good time. My mom, Matigan, and myself went on the garage sales across Kansas Friday evening and all day Saturday - we didn't quite make it across the state before we were tired out and ready to just be home. We were able to stay the night at my sister's house in McCook, NE on Friday night and leisurely make our way back on Saturday. Along the way, we stopped at the geographical center of the lower 48 states - I didn't know it was in Kansas, guess I forgot that from Kansas History! There were lots of antiques - my mom pointed out the old wash tubs that she remembers taking baths in. Matigan couldn't believe it!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Happy birthday sis! (That's her relaxing on the couch). I'd have a better photo, but you always seem to disappear when the camera is out, so this is it. Hope you had a great day and enjoyed your dinner. Can't wait to see you and Marcus again!

Football Season

Elliott started flag football this weekend. It was a great morning for it - a little clouded over and nice and cool!

He is excited to be the quarterback. It is so funny to watch him call out the play before he gets the ball - he is so deliberate and LOUD! They did great! They scored 4 times!

9/11 Remembered

Hard to believe it has been 7 years since this awful day. Everyone has their own story of where they were when the attack happened. Kris' dad was actually in New York City that day and witnessed much of what happened - luckily from a distance. It is amazing how just seeing the pictures can still bring tears to my eyes - it is truly something that will never be forgotten.
